Wine Country, 101 Hwy, Mendocino County, CA: After topping off the gas tank at Costco and last minute shopping we left Santa Rosa and headed north on Hwy 101 through Mendocino County wine country. Jimminy Crickets, there sure are a lot of vineyards in these here parts. The shots are mostly from the 101 as we motored along. We don't drink the fermented grapes so we had no interest in visiting a winery. If there were a Bosco factory in the hood, now that I'd like to visit.
Our destination for the night was at the begining of the Redwood Forest where we found a campground at the foot of the Avenue of the Giants. Giant Redwood RV Park in Myers Flat. Not one of our favorite campgrounds but we needed a stop for the night before we drove another 3 hours to the Oregon Coast. We parked the Lil Coconut amongts the beautiful redwood trees but the flies were nasty, wifi limited and our neighbors up wind were smoking the local weed with unsual regularity, non stop basically for 6 hours. We're not imbibers so the remnants that floated over to our campsite was annoying. We didn't mention the distinct fragrance last night at the KOA but now wondered if this was going to turn out to be the Puff The Magic Dragon Tour. If Captian Scott was the president, these guys were the rank and file of the California Pot Growers and Imbiber Association.
A storm along the Oregon coast was brewing the night of our stay in Myers Flat. Heavy rain and even heavier winds were forcasted. We would have to plan carefully as we made our approach on Saturday hoping the storm would soon have passed. Which remindes me, throughout our travels so far, my thoughts were constanly driftiing back to the threat of the hurricanes still approaching the islands. I religiously checked my Storm app on my iphone for updates. Be safe Hawaii Nei.
